Money Makers Earn Money Online The Barest Facts Not Fiction?
The following hub, is a short tutorial of some basic technical elements. It is aimed at new web writers and non-technical hubbers.
What are the essential elements you need in a hub or webpage, to get your work noticed on the world wide web.
Many people wonder why they get so few views. I have read their work and it is good.
Know Your Enemy
We have to remember that we are competing against companies, whose whole business it is, to get their articles and websites above yours, on the internet.
They want those internet eyeballs on their webpages. These companies finance entire departments, to ensure their webpage out performs yours?
So what can 'we' do, to compete against such powerful business interest's? Well quite a lot actually! If we want to make money we have to get serious.
A few technical changes may help to make those pages fly.
If you are an experienced writer for the web, or are not to bothered about reader numbers, then this hub is probably not for you.
Good quality content is of course very important. Adding a few technical tweaks can't hurt.

Step By Step
The three basic technical elements are
The Title.
The Summary.
Meta Tags.
The Title of this hub is repeated in this chapter title, why is this here? Why does it look like poor grammar?
The title looks peculiar to a human reader but not to a web crawler. To a web crawler, it looks like it matches the content of the page and so may actually be useful, to people.
If we consider the title of this hub. It equals to 6,030 similar titles, with money makers in the title; on a simple Google search.
I have fiddled around with the words, that make up the title, to reduce the amount of competing titles with similar words in their titles.
To do this yourself, add and remove words from the search that you are doing on Google.
For example. Typing the terms money makers into Google, returned 14,900.000 competitors; with the terms money makers in their title.
The chance of your hubpage or webpage, being read by anyone on the web is nearly 15 million to 1, based on this search.
With the tweaking I did with the title, I have reduced that to just over 6000. Still a lot of competition, but a lot better than almost 15 million.

2 Billion Customers And Growing
Why Did I Do This Excercise
I set myself a task, a goal and a time limit. To see if it really is possible to make money online, simply from home; writing about things that interest me.
The time limit was to be 3 months, up until the Christmas of 2011-2012.
In hindsight, 6 months would have been a better length of time, to allow the widespread distribution on my efforts globally.
Update. However, I have reached the end of my time limit, and the answer is a simple, YES.
I have made some money from writing online. I am not going to be able to do it as an alternative to regular work, yet, but it is possible to make some money.
This hub is an example of what elements you need, in each hub to make it successful and popular with the search engines, and hopefully an enjoyable experience for the reader.
When you have finished reading. Take a look at the various elements of this hubpage to see what I am referring too. Pick it apart, if you will.
This tweaking does not mean, that you will have millions of views immediately (although it does happen sometimes)
It 'will' help your work to appear higher in the Google search engine rankings, so it will have a fighting chance of being read.
Using Google's adwords program, searching on the terms money makers, returned 165,000 hits monthly at 0.54 p per 1000 with low competition.
That means for every 1000 page impressions that you generate you will earn 0.54 p or roughly half a $?
Another thing you may notice in the adwords program, is that different words have different values.
Some words are $0.6 while others are $69.0 and more.
These are the sums you can earn per 1000 impressions. The higher the value the greater the competition generally but not always.
Also this is the cost to advertisers, if they want to use these words in an advertising campaign.
Adwords states that every month, 165,000 searches were carried out using these exact words, money makers, so they need to be in the title.
Two other elements you need are a short descriptive summary. And some adword tags.
The summary is the short text, that will appear under your title when people search for a this particular topic.
The summary of this page looks like this on a Google search.
'Money Makers Earn Money Online The Barest Facts Not Fiction'
'Short tutorial on helping to get your work noticed on the world wide web. Is it really possible to make money online, simply from home. Writing about things that interest me.
Meta Tags or just tags, are the keywords that search engines like Google search for, and group together on their index page. Or search engine rank page.(SERP)
Tags are added to the Tags section on a hub page and also in the header (top) of a webpage. The header of a webpage is the first thing that the search engines crawlers check.
You can see the tags used for this hubpage on the top right hand side of this page, in the box marked, Tags.
Take a moment to look at the tags in the tags box. Then look through this hubpage, to see where they appear in the body of the text, and the title section's.
It will help, to use these tags, in the body text of the hub or webpage; as this indicates to the web-crawler, that the page is really about what it says it is about.
Don't overdo it though, too much repetition can lead to your page being penalized by Google, and cast into the digital abyss.
Plus it will be very boring and not to mention, irritating to read.
The Adwords program from Google, tell us how many searches are carried out monthly and annually, on a particular word or phrase.
This can be really useful in deciding what words you will use in your title, summary and tags.

Your content then, is what will really make your hubs or web pages successful. As it engages the reader.
The links in blue on this page will also strengthen your hub or websites presence on the web. These are back-links. Site links that point to your work.
There is no use driving millions of people to your page, who immediately leave again, because there is nothing to engage them.

This is what Google and the other search engines love.
The public voting, by viewing your pages and sharing them.
It is the internet version of 'word of mouth' advertising and there is nothing better as we all know.
You are more likely to read something, that a friend recommends, than something that just turns up unannounced, or asked for. Spam!

Not that you haven't had a bit of praise for this hub, but is is absolutely outstanding. I already do some of the things you listed, but still learned much. Thanks for sharing such a good article for all the Hubbers that are all working to succeed.
These are great instructions. Yes, meta tags and tags are very important in SEO, along with original content. Very informative and useful. Thanks and voted up :)
Very helpful article! I like the way you break down the elements that drive traffic (title, summary, keywords, etc.), and explain the search factors for each of them. Many thanks for publishing this guide for us! Voted up and useful!
It all makes good sense, if I can just put this SEO puzzle together in my head. There is so much to remember, I need a check list! Thank you so much for sharing this great information. Voted up and useful! Have a great day! :)
It is a very informative and useful Hub. Voted up and shared.
This is very useful and informative. Thank you for sharing. Excellent tips to increase traffic.
great work, Mike! Making money online is certainly not easy, but these tips will certainly help. Useful and entertaining as always. Sharing...
Thanks for sharing these tips. They are particularly good for new hubbers but they're also a reminder to all hubbers of the things that will make a hub rank higher on Google.
Voted up, useful and interesting.
Really great hub. I'll try.
Very useful hub. Not boasting but I think I'm a good writer, however,t I'm not getting sufficient visitors to make writing worthwhile. I will definitely tweak the titles, meta tags and summary to see if it will make a difference. Thanks for the information. Voted up.
great hub.
Wow - Thank you so much. Great hub with lots of information. I learned so much from it. Great work. Voted up and SHARING so everyone can benefit.
Great hub! Voted up and useful and SHARING. I was actually thinking about organic links while driving to work this morning - I was thinking that I want to spend my time really "milking" HubPages and less time on my blogs/other sites because so many people are willing to comment and every time you respond, all those links build up. In turn, it seems like if you can really create and contribute to a following on HP, then you can really help yourself anyways - as opposed to trying to leave backlinks everywhere.
Some nice options here. Voting this Up and Useful.
Thanks for this Molometer. This helps me understand many things, including what the + button is for. Very well written and understandable.
Very informative and detailed article. I always wanted a money tree, haven't found on yet. Any ideas on how to get one?:)
Hello molometer
Great hub, and very true at that.
Take care
John
Good stuff mate. I will try some tweeks.
Good evening Michael- I was getting a bit worried about you...hadn't seen you post in a while. But I guess it is OK when our real life occasionally interferes with our addiction. :)
I have been alternating posting and packing up the Christmas decorations all day. I know, I know...but I love Christmas decorations. They remind me of my parents who are both gone now...so since it comforts me, I indulge myself. Got to go grade some papers now. Catch you Later.
Theresa
Thanks so much for this, even though I have been on these pages for some time, until now it has purely been for my pleasure. New year, new focus and time to try and get my sanguine brain around some of this technical stuff. You have made the gobbledegook make sense to me, and will be happily trawling through your other hubs to learn more!
I see your genius in your words here, them keywords, and titles are paramount indeed, as well as having some knowledge of the tooling, that we all currently have at our disposal on the web.
Awesome hub indeed, your headed for the Top @ Molometer, there's no doubt about that one, some of us have knowledge on certain subjects, and than there are those like you, who are subject matter experts in many area's that most people are seeking to find such useful information from.
I am sincerely honored to be a follower of you, and I will learn a great deal more as I go along, I am also into web design myself as well as networking, but I haven't dug as deep into it all as you.
This is my humblest honest truth, I've expressed to you today, and I know you will continue to help us all with hubs, such as this awesomely useful one here.
Thanks! so much for sharing, and I don't need to say its getting voted up, for you no more. You already know the drill :)
Excellent advice, like the feedback too. I need to put in more time with certain practices.
Thumbs up.
Easy to understand and follow, great Hub and I will now use the information. There is so much info out there it gets confusing. Thanks.
Great hub, thanks so much for posting! SO much useful info here,
A very helpful and informative hub. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry a small glitch...
Continuing... Many pages did get hit by Panda, but by using the mulitple page yet unique construct, you can put Panda at bay.
Do not misunderstand me, in that Keywords are a vital part of your page construction. However, Google looks for these keywords on the page itself and not under your -head- where the keyword meta-tag is placed.
The algorithm searchs for these within your Title tags, Subtitles, and within the content which means it is imperative that your keywords or phrases show up within these areas on a repetitive basis. Changing up the position of the words within your keyword phrases is also necessary so that when algorithm looks at a sentence and has been program to collect keyword in position 5 of your sentence structure on paragraph 3 you are covered.
There is no way that you can specifically know what keywords in what position, in what paragraph the algorithm is looking for, but you can increase your odds by multiple versions of the same article. Think Chaos Theory.
Keywords vs Keyword Meta Tag...a different beast altogether. I just got though looking at my own Google+ and see no area to input specific keywords (either on Google+ or Google Sites) There is however, a place for the Description of which you would place your keywords and phrases in a 150 character sentence. I even created a new website and failed to see a keyword meta tag input.
If you are using Internet Explorer you have under your tools a set of tools (F12 Developer Tools) where by you can clear your cashe. Doing so will allow you to look to do a fresh search. However, to answer your question, I do use several computers to view my sites from various locations with different IP addresses, and I do get different results. This tells me that there are multiple algorithms that Google uses, and from different platforms as well. Adsense ads are also different from one platform to another as well. If you take into consideration that by controlling their serps in this way, Google increases their online "inventory" by allowing one site to rank higher in one location or platform and lower somewhere else. Hence, the need for multiple yet unique pages exploiting the same keywords or phrases. An example of this would be when you look at your Analytics page under locations/city you will see some areas of the world viewing your pages while others don't.
As far as I am concerned Panda/Schmanda....many pages did get hit
I hate to disagree with you molometer. However, the Goog explicitly states in the literature that their algorithm complete ignores the Meta Keyword Tag. However, other more antiquated search engines do, so using the Keyword Tag will not hurt in getting your pages ranked higher in those search engine rankings. On the otherhand, is it beyond Google to circulate misinformation? In my opinion it would not be a stretch to see this as a strong possibility. I will tell you that I myself have some pages ranking on page one for 20,000,000 search results and do not use the keyword tag, and some that do. There are far more reasons that pages rank high on the Goog, and I am fairly sure the keyword meta tag has a very small role if any in how pages rank.
I am already using a number of these techniques and they work very well. I find being specific as possible in your keyword is very important and can improve your chances of being seen.
You're very welcome!
easy to understand explanation on just producing simple yet effective and well written hubs. Thanks for the quick reminder.
Good morning Molometer,
Regarding blogging....it takes awhile to get established and it is certainly hit and miss finding content gigs....and...they don't pay much. It took me about six months before I was making any kind of money at it but what I have found is it is very time consuming and not worth it when you consider the time involved and the return involved. I need to either find another niche or find a way to syndicate so that I do the tenth of the writing for ten times the pay. I will keep researching and eventually I will find a winning formula.
I found your hub very informative and helpful. Thanks for sharing
As a freelance blogger for several companies I found your Hub interesting and informative. Many of the techniques I was first taught about SEO writing are mentioned in your Hub; several I had not been taught or had forgotten were also in your Hub. Thanks for the info and reminders.
Is the webpage header the same thing as the title? I was I little confused about that. Voted up & following. Thanks friend.
Wow, this is a wicked useful article. I'm looking forward, especially, to using the adword program to analyze the web traffic to my own hubs. I'm a new hubber and I've been eating up hubs that suggest they're going to improve what I do here, but this one takes the cake so far. Thanks again molometer!
Thanks for the tips!
Great post
thanks for sharing
You have written some great advice here Mike and I will bookmark this page. At present I don't write to make money but who knows what the future will bring.
I doubt that my poetry is of much interest to Google but I will certainly be tweaking such things as my tutorial on screenshots and a couple of others.
Thank you
Thanks Molometer, my last two articles (one about to be published) I have implemented your technique for "title" searching, what a charm! I do use Google keyword tool for SEO when performing page optimizing, website maintenance and build. Honestly I hadn't though of doing it this way...brilliant!
Gee, thank you for such a terrific and easy-to-understand answer. And joy, joy...I am that much smarter now for asking you my question.
And I'll have you know as long as you continue to create these amazing and informative hubs, you will receive compliments.
Again, mahalo!
You're "The Man!" I will be plastering this hub in each room of my house. :) And for backup - I shall bookmark it too. You have provided so much "meat" here. I am passionate about learning and can't get enough brain food to saturated my hungry brain.
I suppose that's because it is so lacking. Ah - well. Michael to the rescue.
This marvelous and rewarding hub, Money Makers Earn Money Online The Barest Facts Not Fiction, ( see what a good teacher you are?), is the most helpful hub on the internet.
A mear thanks, isn't enough so I will include Mahalo, the Hawaiin word for thank you which comes from the heart.
I've a simple question for you (almost too embarrassed to ask) - well...here goes - is the header the same thing as the title? (face turning red) vocalcoach
Michael - I am glad I could make you laugh, especially out loud. Now, I feel quite accomplished. :) I definitely was inferring scintillating (what a great word)as opposed to something 50,0000 years old.
Sory Linda has a cold, glad you don't. And it is good to know that you are dutifully recording in your sleep diary. This side of the pond is fine, but quite cold just now.
Well, quite cold for Atlanta, Georgia. The Nnortheast and Midweatern areas of the US would laugh, disdainfully, at me, because they have seriously cold weather.
Its all relative. If you live in the south, a temp below freezing (27 degrees night before last) is ferociously cold. We have no snow chains, so when we get the occasional bit of snow or ice , we are immobilized and northerners laugh at us. Hmmm, how come the same people who make fun of us, end up retiring by the thousands to sunny, warm, Florida?
I am looking forward to learning about Cromwell. :)
Stay warm, stay cool, stay well.
Theresa
Well, my goodness molometer! This Hub has a life of its own, an eternal life! I keep seeing it pop up over and over as more and more people discover it and comment
Just goes to show that a well-written, informative Hub has a very long half-life (to utilize a concept from science - think I am using that right - something about radioactive elements and so forth). :)
I hope that you and your wife are doing well in the new year.
Theresa
Yes! But so very pleasantly so!
I don't know that I will ever make money writing poetry, but I enjoy doing it--I could go back to legal work I suppose--Goggle might like the keywords better--Great information in this hub!!
Hi Molometer,
I've been following the advice I wrote about for Webanswers and I'm very happy with it. I spend far less time there than here, but am pulling in $40 per month extra from Webanswers. I think Hubpages is more interesting and social, but Webanswers definitely pays faster! How are you finding it now?
Another great article. I am so glad to hear that you have made money and therefore are probably planning on hanging around. I learn alot from you and I want you to know that I really appreciate it. I am revamping some of my older hubs and will be looking at doing what you suggest for sure. +ing and voting
Ahhh molometer - a man after my own heart - testing, analyzing, tweaking, and number crunching. This certainly is a great hub with some very useful SEO advice.
Hi Molometer, you read my mind when you mentioned "bad grammar". Now it's clear what you were up to - and I want to try it for myself. I too am surviving by writing and making money online, but I want to get better at it. Recently I had a big upsurge in hub writing, writing nearly a hub a day and starting one or two others. As the creativity was flowing the response in views and fruitful commenting was also evident. You also encouraged me by saying that knitting patterns and recipes are good evergreen topics, since they are among my favorites, as well as biographies and all things Croatian as I am an expat living in Europe.
Thanks for the tips and an overall great Hub - voted up and useful,
ECAL
Interesting.. I've never read that about the final paragraph having to contain the same keywords as the title. I have never optimised for this. It's another key to the SEO puzzle. Thanks.
SEO is great but It takes lot of time and it is a continuous process. Thanks for the great article
Hi Molomter- You are certainly (and have been) helpful. I am on Hubs primarily for creative purposes and to exchange work with a literate community, but a little money wouldn't hurt either. I am not sure that what I write will generate hit or profits, which is OK, I write what I want to write.
I think I have been pretty good about tags. But I have seldom written the summary paragraph, which I need to start doing. And your comments about titles have given me some food for thought. Right now I am waiting for an approval from Google. So we shall see. :)
Have a blessed and wonderful Christmas.!
I like your phrase 'the digital abyss'. Great article. Now I'll push a couple of those buttons you mentioned.
Really interesting. Thanks for posting. I'm trying to improve my titles and keywords to catch Google's eye.
Very good and effective advice. I have only been experimenting with Keywords for a few months, but have already seen a massive impact of traffic. Your readers should follow your advice if they are looking for a slice of the Google pie!
Great hub with a lot of great information. I just actually hit my totals for my first payout. I haven't done it yet, but I was still pretty excited. Thanks for the explanation about the meanings by Adwords. I was always a little confused by that! :)
Nice info about SEO.I concentrate more on meta tags as it is very important factor.I will follow and bookmark this hub!
Thanks for the info. I will give these hints a try.
ABR
Hi, molometer, I will try this direction out in my next hub. thanks...
Hi Molometer,
An amazing hub, I've saved it as one of my favourites to refer to.
Sir, sad that you don't live in Possum Hollow. There are many times that me and my bird dog Licker could use help in writing something that nice good people of this world would take the time to read without replying all cocksure and calling this O'fart a asinine ignorant feeble-minded person.
I truly hope you never experience the bird of paradise flying up your nose....cause for most people in this world today.....the truth is hard to swallow.
"The habit of giving only enhances the desire to give."
- Walt Whitman
well done reinforces what I knew.. great hub!
Interesting and useful hub. Thanks for sharing. GClark
Thanks Molometer, That was very help full.I been working on some post on word press. Only to find out after a lot of work and research that I cant use adsence or a lot of other affiliate programs, but if I get a lot of hits and become very well known, I can use a few chosen programs that they offer.
Wealth of information, descriptive and concise. Thanks for the help. Voted up, useful and bookmarked...
Hi,
I voted up and useful--as you have shared some valuable tips with us. I do most of what you have written about but not all. So, I am happy I stopped long enough to read your hub.Thank you so much for doing so.
You have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year,
Bobbi
When I took the time to add summaries to my hubs (without messing with the titles or tags), my traffic increased, so your tips are right on. Good solid info on SEO. Rated up and useful.
As writing hubpages is new to me I have gained a lot of good tips from your article. I endevour to write on topics that could be of interest to others in the long term. I am humbled by the support of experienced writers and learn daily from these ones and yourself, thanks!
This will be put to use ASAP. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank Mike,
I just went through some hubs and did a little make over, although there really isn't much for the creative writing one, well hold on a sec....
crap, okay I see, shit back at again.
Thanks molometer, just the information I needed. You explained the 'SEO treatment' in a way that even I can understand. (Am such a slow learner.)
I can't even seem to get adsense to accept me yet.
I am bookmarking your Hub and shall study study study your 'teachings' till my writings work commercially.
Bless you.
Vote up, 'useful', 'interesting' and 'like' on facebook.
Good info. I figure if I keep at it maybe I can make enough every month to at least pay a few bills..
Great information here. I know I need to play around with keywords too. I will definitely spend more time using the adwords tool to get my keywords just right.
Great information. I will try using your suggestions on a future hub! Voted up and shared!
I am definitely a money maker who yearns to earn money online Mike.
This was written with great detailed information about the importance of keywords, tags, or meta tags and how they tie in to ranking on Google.
Awesome barest facts!
Very interesting hub. I personally have not spent much thought or time to picking the most ideal keywords. I'm not sure if that's good or bad. And like Judi Bee, still trying to wrap my head around SEO too.
I am gradually trying to get my head around SEO, but generally I don't write about stuff that interests tonnes of people, so it's a bit academic really! It keeps me amused though :-)
Great advice, shall try to take it on board. Voted up etc.
Thanks Mike!
Will tune up better headers or titles! Actually will bookmark this hub! Voila!
