Cape Town Map? Table Mountain Is The Map

It is virtually impossible to get lost in Cape Town

Table Mountain dominates the landscape from wherever you are. It is the Cape Town map!

This majestic and mystic mountain changes daily and by the hour. In the morning in can be bathed in sunshine and an hour later it can be covered in the tablecloth.

A cloud bank that just appears if the wind is blowing in the right direction.

Many believe that Table mountain has a mystical power and that if the mountain is there then everything is right with the world.

There is no denying it's majesty. When viewed from any vantage point it is impressive. Rising 1 km high it dominates the landscape. 7/10ths of a mile high in old money.

You can catch the cable car to save your legs, or try one of several walking trails, to get to the top. Once you are there you can jump straight off again on an abseiling experience.

I would suggest you stay atop for a while and wonder at the diverse flora and fauna that is in abundance on top of this massive natural sandstone rock prominence.

When peering from the top of the mountain, you will see, the Cape Town Map as if you were looking in a tour guide. It is impressive.

Cape Town Table Mountain

There you may see the Rock Hyrax (or Dassie in the local lingo) a tiny mammal who's closest relative is an elephant. It lives on the Mountain and jumps around on the sheer rock face in total abandon. You will find a multitude of birds too, that will clean up any food you leave lying around.

Some people call it table top mountain because when the tablecloth appears it does indeed resemble a table top. The south easterly wind brings the conditions for the table cloth to appear.

In Afrikaans Table Mountain is Tafelberg. Tafel = table and berg = mountain.

If you are a South African citizen you can get a free ride on the cable way on your birthday! Just turn up with your passport or ID book and your on.

Where to stay

There is accommodation to suit every budget from the swankiest 5 star hotels to the swankiest B&B in the Malay Quarter. To backpackers for a couple of bucks a night. See What other hubbers have to say, in the links section.

Cape Town is a tourists dream with every conceivable thing to see and do. It is a very safe city as long as you use your head. The same as any big city really. I Hope you enjoyed my pictures of Table Mountain. Thanks for dropping in.

Don't forget to this handy Cape Town Map with you when you go next.

Hi rebeccamealey,

You will have a great time I am sure. The South Africans are just so welcoming and friendly. You won't want to leave. I only went to buy a holiday home and stayed 8 years? lol

No, that was a few years ago. But it was a great experience for her. She met her husband in Atlanta while he was here with his parents on a work Visa, and returned for two visits with him I Can't wait to go someday, see all that beauty and meet extended Family!

Hello rebeccamealey,

You only missed the 'u' out of Nelspruit so well done.

I could go on, but suffice it to say. Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe this incredible country. I loved living there and feel privileged, that I got the chance to do so.

If your daughter is there already, what a great excuse for a visit.

Hi Brett,

It is an amazing place to visit. The pictures don't do it justice. You have to see it.

The pancake hub is an experiment. I wanted to see the number of hits it got with a no comments section. It's doing OK but it dawned on me afterwards that the comments are vital to the Goog. As the Goog perceives the comments as updates and additions to the article. Still it is worth running it for a while to see how it does. Eventually the organics will rank it anyway. I thought I would just check it out. Thanks for SHARING much appreciated.

Table Mountain is something majestic eh!

Wow, that is a stunning area! Nice pics too.

I was also going to comment on your pancake hub, but don't know if you realise .... your comments are off.

Thanks for SHARING.

Thank you Zainnisar,

Sometimes when of top of the mountain, the cloud comes down and you can walk around in the clouds. It is magical. The sky is very big from on top of the table and very blue. It is hard to tell where the sea begins and the sky ends. Truly mystic.

Thanks for SHARING much appreciated.

Hello Pras,

Thank you for your lovely comments. I hope you do get a chance to visit Cape Town's Table Mountain it is truly spectacular and awe-inspiring. I was lucky enough to visit it several times and always wanted to stay longer. To imagine when you are on top of it, we are actually standing on what was once the sea bed is amazing.

Hello Theresa,

It certainly is a breathtaking view.

That is true of South Africa in general.I love the place.

The sleeping is a bit of a pickle to be sure. I have another sleep diary. It is not looking good so far. In fact. I think this is going to be considerable harder, than even I expected!

Michael- Great Hub and great, no I mean, fabulous pictures. I love the ocean, always have, and I live hours away from it in the middle of North Georgia.

Never heard of the Rock Hyrax before. Cute as a button, although I think I will stick with my sedate, fairly well behaved cats. :)

Are you sleeping any better? Are you sleeping at all? Was wondering about the results of the sleep study.

Thanks for the most amazing pics of Table Mountain and Cape Town, molometer! I am housebound due to a chronic illness, so I love to 'travel' with my eyes. I hope to see Table Mountain for myself someday, but for now these photos are a great second best! Thanks!

It is surprising that this little 'Dassie' is a cousin to an elephant. DNA is incredible I agree.

Cape Town is a stunning city and well worth a visit. Table mountain is breathtaking.

Hi NatalieMK I agree, time for change!

Nataliemk 4 months ago

Eish, that made me feel homesick! I wish they could abolish the South African Government and start again - with people of any color that have good intentions to benefit the country as a whole.

How very strange that the tinny rock hyrax should be related so closely to the elephant! That lets us know that just I little difference in our DNA can result in hugely different outcomes.

I would love to visit Cape Town sometime……
