So welcome to hubpages.
These articles (hubs) are put together very quickly using text, picture and video pods, It is a modular system and very easy to use. You do not need to know anything about computer programming or any of that kind of thing. Nothing complicated. I have written other hubs on a few technical tips that will boost your traffic. You can use copyrighted materials under certain conditions. For example.
(1) You have the copyright owners permission.
(2) The picture or image is under the creative commons license scheme. In this case you must give the copyright holder's name credit. Source etc
Alternatively
(3) Use copyright free images and pictures.
As you can see in the above hub I have used all three methods both copyrighted and copyright free.

Interesting article, it really spelled out how to use hubpages in a simple way. It definitely gets an A on ease of understanding, one of the most important parts of communication (sorry, that's the Ling major in me :) ). Unfortunately, it actually reinforced one of the questions i have, about using pictures. A couple of your pictures had sources, others didn't. and one of them even mentioned that it was copyrighted to someone else. so it's okay to use non-original photos, as long as they're credited? i'm still a little unclear as to the policy on that (and i'm afraid to add pictures to my hubs until i'm 100% sure).

Good old fashioned hard work and effort are unfashionable today.
We get what we give and that is also apparent on hubpages, as in any walk of life.
Can you make money on hubpages? Of course, but it takes time, effort and the ability to produce content on things that people really want to read and share with their friends.
I find the whole process very rewarding.
I will not be giving up my day job any time soon but I am enjoying my time here on hubpages. The community make hubpages very special place on the web. I have never come across such a place anywhere else. How about you?

Communicating to others here is definitely a way to get it all started for sure, I agree with you wholeheartedly.
Its definitely not an easy thing to attract many online users to your location, but I think if you write great hubs from the heart they can achieve lift off onto the web and gradually grow a huge following indeed.
Some people are looking for an easy way out today, but hubpages isn't that at all, and there's really no way around the hard work and determination that's required to get somewhere especially on the web today.

Webanswers pays much more in terms of reward for time spent and it is fun but I wouldn't say it is as creative as hubpages and you can make money on hubpages when you have a bazillion hubs lol

A refreshing look at Hubpages though I have been here a while.I get the most out of HP when I write what interests me and I think might be worth sharing. I have not focused on generating an income here so it is good to see those pennies trickle in as a bonus.

You don't 'have to make money'. There is no rule that says you must.
Many hubbers do not bother to make money and just like to write their hubs.
Personally the money earning aspects of hubpages are more like a game.
I see it as a side issue and that has always been my approach to it.
All of my hubs are experiments in writing to try to improve my writing skills.
There are some people that do make a good living from hubpages but it takes a lot of work and doesn't happen overnight.
If on the other hand you want to make some money, it is better to know how than not. Don't you agree?

Thanks jfay2011 for your visit. I too was astonished when I made my first 4 cents but do you know what; and I know I not supposed to say this but I am so proud of those little 4 cents. I haven't worked out why yet? But it just make me feel terrific. I'm sure other hubbers must feel the same. I don't measure myself by money, I have sufficient unto my needs. But those 4 little cents are special. I can feel a new hub developing lol
very useful hub. Well written. I was surprised when I started actually making some money. Last month I was really surprised and got 56 cents. ha ha. not a lot but it's some. Almost buys a candy bar!

Write to make money, how silly? but if on the off-chance, as you say a publishing operation likes your writing well you have a bunch of articles you can submit ready written?

Some people make good money here on HubPages and I am happy for them. I don't seem to be doing so well. Creative Fiction and Inspirational writing helps me and others feel good though so I keep on trudging along. One day a big magazine or book company will see my Hubs and say "We need that lady writing for us!" I do like your Hub and hope many will be encouraged by it. I love HP and recommend it highly to anyone serious about writing and making money.

I write because I have always wanted to but never had the time,inspiration or got around to it.
I find that hubpages lends itself to my kind of writing and I am producing work that people seem to like to read. That is rewarding in itself. Thanks again
